North Wales at Easter 2025

Once again the club made a dash for North Wales over the Easter Bank holiday weekend. Most opted to arrive Friday night due to the changing weather forecast. Myself and Luke did manage a wet scramble on the West face of Tryfan (due to this amount of rain he decided to leave), while Seb and Elliot managed the cracks on Dina's Mot just before the rain arrives.

Saturday saw one group head off to the Molweyns as it's often a good shout if it's a bit damp. Clogwyn yr Own has some fun mid range routes on which had a few accents from members. Three of us(myself, Becky and Craig) opted instead to head up to Glyder Fach and do a scramble up Sharks Buttress (grade 3) which was a bit damp and cold but a mega day out. But we were treated to some fantastic views from the top as it began to dry up. Tom also arrived Saturday night after getting the train and cycling over the hills.

Sunday saw a fine weather forecast. Some headed off to the slate for a day in the quarries, Lucas and David headed to the Mot (Direct route and The cracks) and Adam ventured to Betws and Carreg Alltrem. There the team ticked off Lightening Visit, Lavaredo and Fratricide wall. Pushing themselves through the grades on some tricky rock. I believe this was the day Seb lead Left wall on Dina's Cromlech (an impressive lead and a difficult onsite), he even through in the E3 finish. I and Becky opted to do Belle Vue Bastion on the east face of Tryfan before walking over to Glyder Fach and doing Direct route. The top pitch being the money pitch, jamming up the massive crack. You will marvel at the first ascensionists doing it with no protection and in boots. A big day out for us not getting back to the campsite until well past 11. Tom and Craig opted for a lively walk across the Carneddau in the wonderful sunny conditions including a few scrambles here and there.

With that the North Wales trip and come to and end. I'm sure there are some accents which I have missed but everyone seemed to have had a good weekend, and despite the dodgy conditions most had climbed, scrambled and walked most days keeping the tradition of the Mountaineering club alive!

Cheers to all who attended and roll on the next one.
