AMC AUTUMN NEWSLETTER

welcome to our autumn newsletter 🙂

The club has had a busy summer of meets and individual trips. Week-night climbing continued through the summer at various venues, both sport and trad (traffic depending) until it got too dark to make it viable. Sadly we are retreating back indoors for our weeknight climbing now, although it can spark a whole new training programme to get stuck into!!

Trips are still running and are listed below. Don’t forget that to get on some trips, like the popular Scotland meet, you will need to book early! Keep checking the forum for further details.

The AGM is on the horizon too, further details below. Please do consider standing for one of the roles listed below. To stand for chair you need to have been in the club for 3 years, or a previous committee member. All other roles are open for anyone. We would LOVE to have some new enthusiastic committee members to take the club forwards. The new joining system is up and running and we look forward to feeding back to you on it at the AGM.

The AMC is 50 years old this year and Jamie has been finding old issues of AMC newsletters, which has posted up on the forum. Very worth a read about what life was like in the AMC back ‘in the day’ 😉

Lastly a very warm welcome to all the new members that have just joined us! We look forward to meeting you on a trip, or at the pub soon.

Talking of which…..

Monday 3rd October is our monthly pub meet at the Golden Guinea from 7.30pm. see you there 🙂

Avon Mountaineering Club AGM is on TUESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 8PM

……keep the date free:)

It will be held in one of Redpoint rooms (complete with jungle party decorations….) and you are very welcome to bring along a drink from the bar to help proceedings along. Entry to the AGM is free.

If you want to climb before and are not a member of Repoint then you will be offered reduced rate climbing for that evenings climb! The normal price for entry at peak time is £13, the reduced rate is £11.05. If you have never climbed at Redpoint before, the first time entry price is a little more at £20 but the reduced rate would be £16.

We hope to see lots of you there!!

At the AGM the committee will report on the club year and then with great anticipation we will be voting in the new committee.

We have an exciting selection of roles you might like to consider doing (see below) If you would like to know more about any of these roles, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us on the committee.

This year we are adding in a walking secretary to our team. An ideal role for anyone who loves walking!! We aim to have a monthly walk, that hopefully ends in a pub, along with more navigation practice walks too.

We also have a communication and social secretary role. Hopefully they will organise some pub quizzes, talks and trips to see films or speakers in 2023….

We have also split the trips secretary into 2 roles, the new climbing secretary role is responsible for the organisation fo weeknight climbing throughout the year, both indoor and out.

We would love to have some fresh fun faces on the committee, so if you are keen to have a say in steering the direction of your club please do consider taking on one of the committee roles. You also get to eat cake at our meetings. Yay.

Scotland trip 4-11th March 2023

Indoor climbing resumes from Tuesday 4th October

We will be meeting every Tuesday at Redpoint climbing centre from around 6.30/7pm on a Tuesday night, starting on the 4th October. Thursday nights are held at The Church, from about the same time. Each night generally has a lovely volunteer to coordinate these evenings. Please check the forum each week to see who it is and to ask any questions.

If you are able to help out with these meets, please email chair@avon-mc.org.uk

We do go bouldering too! There is regular training going on at both Flashpoint and TCA, but this tends to be on a more ad-hoc basis. If you are heading out for some bouldering and want company, put a post up on the forum for some bouldering buddies..

NEW MEMBERS CLIMBING MEETS-

We are running some new members indoor meets through the winter. These are to be held on the Tuesday night Redpoint evenings.

These evenings will run slightly differently from normal meets. A great opportunity for new members to meet even more new people! There will be both committee members as well as other regular club members available to climb with. Any questions around this please drop me an email….

These are on- November 22nd January 17th March 14th

Lastly…….BMC access and conservation current issues

1.Taking action to protect our access to nature.

The BMC are encouraging its members to tell the UK government to stay the course and to make it clear that protecting nature and people’s access to it is vital. They advise everyone to write to their MP, and the Secretary of State for Defra, to make it clear that Environmental Land Management, with public access at its heart, must go ahead.

Further details below

2.FIVE simple ways to reduce our impact on the outdoors on our next adventure!

Thank you for reading all the way to the bottom. I hope to see you out climbing, walking or at the pub soon. but for now, I’m off to Kalymnos 🙂 xx
