Why join us?

The AMC is ideal if you are interested in climbing or mountaineering or indeed are thinking of returning to the sport after a break for whatever reason. One of the great aspects of the AMC is how informally it is run. Although we are a fairly large club and therefore have the necessary rules and regulations in place, our focus and attention is very much on having fun and enjoying the great outdoors. We hope that you will join us and find out for yourself!

New to climbing, walking and mountaineering? 

If you are new to climbing or mountaineering that's no problem, we do not have qualified instructors, but we have experienced members who may look after you if it's your first time outdoors, just so that you can experience the sport before committing to it.  However, as a club, we take safety of all individuals very seriously, we therefore have a requirement that you seek formal instruction and, as a minimum, learn the fundamentals (e.g. belaying) at the indoor climbing wall before paying your membership and joining the AMC. This is for your and our members safety.  Undercover Rock in Bristol provides excellent training for beginners with certified instructors which we highly recommend.  If you are new to walking, please speak to the walk leader before coming on one of our walks, so that you can find out what is involved.  Either way, do come to the pub for a chat, we look forward to seeing you there.

The AMC is mainly organised through the avon-mc Yahoo Group as an email list and Calendar.  Because this list contains contact details and phone numbers, it is kept private and only available to members of the AMC.  You can however view the upcoming events on the calendar page here.
