Oswald the Owl - Club Mascot

lakes

mum Oswald the Owl aka Ozzy was found abandoned as a tiny owlet in the woods of Dingley Dell by Muncaster Castle near Eskdale in the Lake District by two AMC members in the Spring of 2007. Attracted by his pitiful mewling and unable to leave behind the tiny little mite to an unspeakable fate, he was rescued, adopted and raised by the AMC to proudly become the Club Mascot.

dad After extensive and exhaustive research it was discovered that Oswald is a cross between a rare Ural Mountain Owl and a Lakeland Giant Whopper Owl.

Unlike most owls, Oswald is very sociable and active during the day or night depending on his mood. He has become an active member of the AMC and has embraced the activities of climbing, walking and mountaineering, attending numerous trips this year including Lundy, Wye Valley, Snowdon, Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor.

Oswald is a very wise young owl and has many interests including mice, voles, flying, Ferrero Rocher, whisky and girls, especially Kate Humble. However he does have a number of dislikes including scrambled egg, Marmite, getting wet, cigarettes, flat beer and Bill Oddie. [ed - sounds remarkably like dave....]

Oswald is also a big movie fan and his favourite films include Cry of the Owl, Bird of Prey, Night Owl, Predator, The Howling, The Birds, The Owl & the Pussycat and Howl’s Moving Castle. He also has an ear for a good tune and some of his favourite records are “I am the Owl” by The Dead Kennedys, “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy, “Night Owl” by Gerry Rafferty, “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd and anything by Hooty & the Blowfish or The Byrds.

However a rather worrying development, as he reaches maturity, is his penchant for the ladies and a taste for single malt whisky. Certainly all the ladies love Oswald but we are not sure whether whisky does too!  [ed - 1st sentence still sounding like dave, not so sure about the 2nd...]

lundy drinking... drunk...

Anyway Oswald is always looking for new buddies to hook up with for a walk or climb, especially if there is a wee dram to be had in a local hostelry. So if any AMC member wishes to be his guardian for the day, then just have a natter with any committee member on the monthly club night at The Cottage Inn to secure his release!
